Video: 2 killed in Big-rig crashes with multiple vehicles

SAN DIEGO — Two people died Wednesday afternoon when a big rig collided with several vehicles on a La Mesa freeway.

The collision happened around 2:30 p.m. on northbound state Route125 at Interstate 8.

Helicopter video from over the scene showed a jackknifed tractor trailer and a crushed green sedan was near the truck’s cab. A yellow tarp covered the driver’s side of the green car. A smashed black SUV was behind the big rig. All the doors of the SUV were open.

A firefighter could be seen taking a small child away from the crash scene to a nearby fire truck.

From skid marks on the highway, it appeared that the big rig was heading southbound on Route 125 just south of I-8 when for unknown reasons it veered to the left and smashed through a guard rail. It continued across three lanes of northbound Route 125 and crashed through another guard rail. It crossed three lanes of the connector ramp from Route 125 to eastbound I-8 and came to rest partially blocking the ramp.

One lane of the connector from northbound Route 125 to I-8 east was expected to be closed for several hours.

It was unknown how many others were injured.

This is a developing story. score: Fox5
